Kundapur, 31 Jan 2014: It’s indeed tragic that father of nation Mahatma Gandhi who led the freedom struggle against imperial rulers by non-violence means was shot dead by a fellow Indian. Mahatma Gandhi fostered communal harmony among Hindu and Muslim brethren in pre-Independence and post-Independence era, said Kundapur Bar Association president, veteran advocate A B Shetty.
Shetty was speaking during sixty-sixth death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi held at Kundapur block Congress office here on Thursday January 30 morning.
Kundapur – Sahamata Vedike convener Sasidar Hemmady in his chief guest’s address said that the terrorism has been wide spread in the country in various forms since 1992, while the followers of Naturam Godse, who was the first terrorist after Independence to gun down Mahatma Gandhi are trying to sabotage Gandhi principles, said Sasidar.
The town councilor Sridar Seregar, town Congress Committee vice president Chandrashekar Shetty, Uday Poojary, Loy Carvalho, Dharmaprakash, veteran Congressmen Nagaraj Naik, Ratnakar T Naik, Chandra Amin, K V Vidhyadar, Umesh B, Mohammed Riyaz, Nagaraj H S, Anil Kumar, K Suresh, V Shekar and others were present.
