Bangalore, 21 June 2010: Kannada writer Chandrashekhar Kambar on Sunday urged the State government to institute an award in the name of artist K K Hebbar.
He was addressing a gathering at Kannada Bhavan after felicitating N Marishamachar at K K Hebbar Centenary Celebrations. “He was an artist of great sensibility. Hebbar’s art provokes imaginations of art lovers. But, he did not get honour he deserved as the government neglected him. Hence, the government should institute an award in his name,” he demanded. He lauded Marishamachar’s services and said he authored history of fine arts and organised scattered artists.
Artist S J Vasudev requested the government to set up a studio for the artists and termed Marishamachar as a bridge between literature and visual arts. Marishamachar recalled Hebbar’s suggestions, guidance and advice in transforming his personality. He would use the honour to bring on Hebbar, he said. The award comprises a memento, citation and Rs one lakh cash.
