Kundapur,18 Oct 2013: She is about ninety-year-old, with deep eyes, face full of wrinkles, bend back, who has sacrificed everything for her children to be what they are today, now seeks a shelter. This is not a tale from distant land; it’s the miserable story of Padmavati, a resident of J L B Road, here.
Padmavati has four sons, Anand Poojary, Rama Poojary, Krishna Poojary and Laxman Poojary, but none of them care for her. She lived for many years with her seventy-year-old daughter who is sick and lies in hospital. Meanwhile, Padmavati has none to care for her. When the neighbours called Padmavati’s sons, explaining the plight of their mother, inone of them is willing to care for her. One wonders what a mother would feel in her old age, when forsaken by her children. A distant relative of her admitted to Spoorthidhama Rehabilitation Center. Padmavati is happy spending time with the inmates.
It’s not Indian culture to shun elderly parents. If one shunts his/her parents, they will in turn have to go through the same ordeal in life. Padmavati needs a little love and caring. Spoorthidhama chief functionary Dr Keshav Koteshwar urges the sons of Padmavati to take her back home and take good care of her, otherwise they had to face the legal consequences.
