Udupi, 14 Aug 2013: As per the population census of 2011, the ratio of women in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada (DK) districts declined.
As per the census of 2011, Udupi district has a total population of 11,77,361, out of whom 5,62,131 are men and 6,15,231 are women. When compared to the census of 2001, the men and women ratio was 1,000:1,130 that has reduced to 1,000 during 2011. Similarly, in the DK district, the men and women ratio was 1,000:1,020 during 2001 which has reduced to 1,000:1,018 in 2011.
As per the census of 2,001, Udupi district had 86.17 percent Hindus, 7.47 percent Muslims, 5.9 percent Christians, 0.41 percent Jains, 0.02 percent Sikhs and Buddhists. As per the census of 2001, DK district had 68.6 percent Hindus, 22.1 percent Muslims, 8.7 percent Christians, 0.6 percent Jains, 0.03 percent Sikhs and Buddhists. The religion-based population census that was undertaken during 2011 is yet to be made available.
