Kundapur, 23 July 2013 : At the joint auspicious of Spoorthidhama Rural Development and Training Institute, taluk education resource centre, Rotary Club International (RCI) – Tekkatte, Milagres College – social work department, Kallianpur, Manipal University – social work department, Dr A V Baliga College of Social Science and Rural Development, Harady and city police, a campaign to rehabilitate street children and bigger women was held here on Saturday July 20.
The group rescued 8 street children in the age group of 2 years to 3 years and 6 children in the age group of 9 years to 12 years, and their 7 mothers, who were found scavenging across the city on Saturday.
Spoorthidhama chief trustee Keshav Koteshar, Milagres College lecturer Lilly Pushpa, MSW students of different colleges, child labour project director Prabhakar Acharya, taluk education resource center treasurer Babu Pai, labour inspector Jeevan Kumar, women and child welfare department officers Rajeshwari – Bhagyavati, RCI – Tekkatte president Manjunat Prabhu, Sridar Acharya were involved in this rescue operation.
Addressing the media persons, Keshav Koteshwar said that they have a goal of transforming Udupi district free from child labourers and beggar free, with the help of different government departments and co-operation of general public. He also urged the progressive organizations and students across the district to assist in their mission. Accordingly, the weekly campaigns to rescue street children and rehabilitation will be held across the district, said Keshav.
