Chikmagalur, 09 June 2010: A car parked at PCM Iron ore factory premises is drawing a lot of attention. When asked about the car, its proud owner Prabhakar says, ’’After writing the SSLC examination, my son designed it during his vacation,’’
The car designer is Vedanth, a 16-year old student of Gonikoppa Public School. This car has the engine of Hero Honda, race bike silencer, Kinetic Honda tyres, Maruti van steering and a special model of desk break.
The total cost of production of the car is Rs 20,000. After working in the factory premises for 40 days, he built the body of the car.
“We have seen him work for the car day and night. He used to wake up early in the morning and start the work on the car. He was not bothered about food and health all that he wanted was to finish this car. I had to travel to the city to get all the commodities he required. Some times I found it to be very difficult and a burden specially to carve out time for his requirement amidst my hectic schedule,” says Prabhakar, Vedanth’s father.
The design is purely Vedanth’s own and Vedanth is said to have brushed aside all suggestions and ideas from others.
“He knew what he was doing and he was clear about the outcome. Even when I used to tell him to do some modifications, he refused because he knew how he wanted the car to look,” said Prabhakar and added that all in all he is happy with the outcome and proud that his so had the courage to venture into something like this at a very young age.
Vedanth wants to become an automobile engineer and his parents say that he should live his dream because after his first design, they are convinced that he can excel in the field.
