Mangalore: Air India disburses compensation

MANGALORE: Air India has so far disbursed interim compensation of Rs. 7.56 crore to the families of 84 victims of the May 22 air crash here. In addition, compensation of Rs. 57 lakh has been paid to 30 families from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

During the second round of disbursement on Thursday and Friday, compensation of Rs. 2.74 crore was paid to the families of 30 victims, including two survivors of the crash.

After the crash, Air India had announced an interim compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to the family members of victims above 12 years of age, Rs. 5 lakh for children aged below 12 and Rs. 2 lakh for survivors.

The 30 families that received interim relief on Thursday and Friday also received compensation from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Under this fund, the families of the deceased will be paid Rs. 2 lakh each and survivors Rs. 50,000 each. The families which were given Air India’s relief on May 28 and 29 were also eligible to receive the relief under the fund, an Air India press release said.

A team of officials, led by Executive Director (Finance) S. Kundra, disbursed Rs. 57 lakh to these 30 families which include two survivors.

A press release issued by Air India said that the airline would continue to extend its support to the families of the victims and assist them in the disbursement of compensation as well as in claiming personal effects of the deceased.
