Manipal, 31 May 2010: Dr K Ramanarayan is the new Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University. He is the fifth Vice Chancellor of Manipal University and takes over from Dr Raj P Warrier.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, Manipal University Chancellor Dr Ramdass Pai informed that Dr Ramanarayan was the Dean of Melaka-Manipal Medical College since its inception in 1997, he added. Dr Ramanarayan has had a distinguished career with the Manipal institutions for over 33 years.
After completing his MBBS from Stanley Medical College, Chennai, Dr K Ramanarayan joined Kasturba Medical College as a tutor cum post-graduate in 1977.
In 1994, Dr Ramanarayan moved to the newly formed International Centre for Health Sciences as Associate Dean to initiate and implement the MBBS twinning programme with University of West Indies. He was the first Dean of the Melaka Manipal MBBS twin campus programme with Malaysia.
Dr Ramanarayan was awarded the short term exchange fellowship in academic leadership by the Foundation for the Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER), USA.
Dr Ramanarayan said that the thrust areas will be to empower people to make them more effective and to excel in academics and research.
Manipal University Pro Chancellor Dr H S Ballal informed that “Manipal University is planning to set up a new engineering college in Jaipur shortly.
“In Bangalore we have allied health courses, nursing school and a post graduate programme on regenerative programme,” he informed.
“Plans are on to continue the management course in Oman that was discontinued for various reasons,” he added. Registrar Dr G K Prabhu was present on the occasion.
