Udupi, 24 Dec 2012: The plants unselfishly serve human beings and are precious wealth for all the advancements in the world, said Professor Prasanna Rai, secretary of Mangalore University pre-university colleges’ botany lecturers Association.
Professor Prasanna Rai was speaking at the inaugural of one-day workshop on plants that were organized at Poornaprajna College, here on Sunday December 23. It was organized jointly by Mangalore University pre-university colleges’ botany lecturers Association and Poornaprajna College.
A child plays in the branches of trees, eats variety fruits. As he grows into adolescent, he sources timber to build a house. He also rests underneath a tree at his old age. Throughout ones life, plants/trees selflessly gives to humanbeing, said Professor Prasanna
Professor Prasanna expressed concern over diminishing interest by youth, while these kinds of workshops help to identify various plants and take measures on its sustenance.
Poornaprajna College principal K Sadashiv Rao presided the programme.
The veteran botanical scientist K Gopalakrishna Bhat was the resource person, who explained the features of different plants in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district by slide shows.
Poornaprajna College head of botany department Dr Vijayalaxmi Bhat welcomed the gathering. Professor Arvind Hebbar proposed vote of thanks. The student Suma compered the programme.
