Udupi, 03 September 2012: The cultures of the coastal Karnataka and Kerala state are intimately mixed, irrespective of the different languages and social life style. This tradition has to be continued and preserved in future also. With this intention in the background, organizing the celebrations of Onam festival for the consecutive 9th year by Kerala Cultural and Social Centre is really appreciable, said Udupi Zilla Panchayath President Katpadi Shankara Poojary. He was speaking during the celebration of Onam in Bannaje Narayanaguru Auditorium, organized by Kerala Cultural and Social Centre.
Inaugurator of the event Prasara Bharathi’s Former President M.V. Kamath spoke on the occasion and said that, along with all the festivals of Hindu religion, Onam festival also has to be celebrated. The Kerala Cultural and Social Centre, along with its support to the education, health and employment, need to support for more social works, he said.
In the program Syndicate Bank General Manager T. Muralidharan, Onam Celebration Committee Chairman T.A. Ravirajan, Kerala Cultural and Social Centre President Sugunakumar and Secretary Ravichandran Nayar were present. Various cultural programs, Pookalam competitions, and the Onamsadya meals to the mentally challenged schools were organized.
