Shirva, 28 Aug 2012: The 102nd birth anniversary of Mother Teresa was celebrated by the Lions Club of Shirva-Manchakal in a meaningful manner on August 27, Monday, by organizing various programmes. The participants of the function offered floral tributes to the portrait of the Mother.
Melwyn D’Souza president of Lions Club Shirva, Prof M Balakrishna Shetty, Principal, Shri Durgaparameshwari First Grade College Kateel, Rev. Fr. Stany Tauro, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Health Church Shirva were the chief guests.
The speakers recalled the services rendered by Mother Teresa to the mankind, exhorted youngsters to follow her ideals and make life meaningful by wiping the tears of the poor and the underprivileged.
K Manohar Shetty,social worker, who started the ambulance service in Shirva was felicitated on the occasion. Brochures on Malaria and Chikungunya were released by Dr Madhusudhan Hegde, Lions District Governor.
A Street play based on Mother Teresa’s life was presented by MSW students of by St. Marys College.
