Udupi, 23 Jul 2012: Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Jayaprakash Hegde said English language is important for the students to survive in the era of modernisation.
Retorting to a query at an interaction programme organised by Udupi taluk Consumer Forum, the MP said rural children should be educated with English language.
The demand for uniform pattern of education is justified and at the same time it is essential to concentrate on English subject right from first standard.
Today English language plays a very important role in getting employment. “Most of the times our rural children score good marks in professional courses, but fail to face the interview owing to their lack of expertise in English language. Public opinion should be given priority while considering the universal education policies,” he added.
Stating that he is working with the officials of Railway department for the extension of Bangalore-Mangalore night train to Karwar, Hegde said that the Railway department should consider extending the night train with 10 compartments to Karwar and seven to Kannur.
He urged Railway Yatri Sangha members not to go for rail roko as he is expecting positive response from Railway department shortly.
He assured that he will hold talks with Surface Transport Minister along with Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes regarding the problems encountered by the localites in the process of widening of NH-66. He said he will discuss over the land acquisition process and also the proposed width of the stretch.
Replying to another query over the problem of drinking water scarcity, the MP said central government releases as many as 90 per cent of the funds for drinking water arrangements.
It is the responsibility of the local bodies to make proper use of the funds, besides making long term plans to eradicate the problem. He added he will hold talks with the officials concerned during the Vigilance Committee meeting to be held shortly.
He said there should be salt water dams built for all rivers right from Ullal to Karwar.
He maintained reservations over the completion of Varahi project hilariously terming it as ongoing and never ending scheme.
Retorting to another query, Hegde assured to hold talks with former Union Law minister regarding early disposal of cases in courts.
He also added that he will ask Veerappa Moily to communicate with the present Law Minister Salman Khurshid over the plans announced by him.
He said cases concerning senior citizens should be disposed on priority basis.
