Uppinangady, 14 July 2012: The students of Sri Ramakunjeshwara First Grade Collge continued to stage protest against the College banning the Muslim girls from wearing ‘Hijab’ (headscarf), even on Saturday.
However, on Saturday the college authorities closed the gate and did not allow over 100 students belonging to Muslim community to stage stir in the college premises. The students who continued to stage stir outside the campus have decided to submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner on Monday, demanding to allow the girls to wear ‘Hijab.’ On the other hand, the college authorities have not budged to the students protest. In a meeting of the college Principal, teachers and the parents convened on Saturday, it was decided to stay firm on the decision and not relax the rules.
In fact, some of the parents said that they had no problem with the College rules, while their children were not listening to them. The issue gained the limelight on Thursday, when a group of students raised their voice against the college authorities decision to impose ban on wearing headsacrf. The college had laid the rule that no student should wear the headscarf while entering the class, keeping in mind the uniformity in dress code.
A few girl students of the college questioned the decision as they claimed that the decision was against their religious belief.
