Mandya, 27 May 2012: Faith transcends borders. The case in point is Mutsumi, a 35-year-old woman, who came all the way from Tokyo city of Japan to Srirangapatna on Friday to seek divine intervention so her broken family is reunited.
A strong believer of Hindu mythology, Mutsumi came to the holy town along with her sister Mamiko to perform ’Sarpa Dosha’ ritual on the banks of Cauvery. The ritual, according to her astrologer Ramachandra Sharma, is to ward off ’Kuja Dosha’ - "the trouble-maker in her horoscope".
As part of the rituals, the sister-do performed ’Asta Naga’, ’Aslesha Bali’, ’Brahmachari Pooja’, ’Navagra Shanit Homa’ and ’Sarpa Dosha’ to "set right the wrong alignment of stars".
Speaking to STOI, Mutsumi said: "I’m a mother of three children. My husband deserted me long ago, to live with another woman. With my children facing problems, I’m desperate to get back my family life. My elders advised me to seek divine help as per Hindu mythology, so I’m here."
Under the guidance of Sharma, the sisters took bath in Cauvery and performed pooja. Mutsumi also offered "Pinda Pradan". "I have strong belief in Hindu faith. I’m sure of my problems being solved," she said.
Sharma said "Sarpa Dosha" was performed to ward off "Kuja Dosha" in Mutsumi’s horoscope. On being asked why Japanese are flocking to Srirangapatna for performing Hindu rituals, Sharma said of late, Indian astrology is getting popular worldwide. "Foreigners visiting the place have expressed deep gratitude towards Hinduism," he added.
