Udupi,22 May 2012: Karnataka state schools and colleges’ computer education teachers affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), staged a dharna in front of DDPU education office here on Monday May 21, 2012 seeking release of the teachers’ salary over 3-4 months and regularization of computer teachers’ positions.
The protesters’ procession began from the service bus stand here until office of the deputy director of education. They shouted slogans to demand release of salaries withheld for over 3-4 months and pressed for the regularization of the ad-hoc teachers appointed.
District president Sulochana, emphasized the relevance and importance of computer education today. She blamed the government for sidelining the computer teachers and turning a deaf ear to their demands. She also took the government to task for leasing out computer education to private bodies who are harassing the computer teachers withholding their salary payable over the past 3-4 months and demanded that the computer teachers be regularized immediately.
Amongst many other demands of the teachers, she insisted that the computer education be regularized, salary for the teachers be paid unfailingly by the first of every month, insurance facilities be offered to them along with casual leave and earned leave and such benefits. They should be paid a minimum Rs. 10,000 salary, with welfare measures and social security, she insisted.
Secretary Shanker, Krishna, Roopa, Shasikala, Sunil Kumar Bajal, Admar Sripathi Acharya, Rasika Karkala, Jagdish, Kusuma and others were present.
