Udupi, 19 April 2012: The first rains have showered in Udupi district and has also caused some damages. People who were helpless with the scorching heat of summer have felt some sigh of relief on Wednesday evening. In the evening at around 4.00 pm lightening hit to the house of Sundara Nayak of Kaduhole, Marne Grama, Karkala Taluk and about rupees 10 thousand worth of property is damaged.
A tree fell on the house of Anita Poojary of Asodu Grama in Kundapura Taluk and about rupees 10 thousand property is damaged. Also, in Bandimutt of Hanehalli Grama a tree fell on a house and rupees 6 thousands worth property is damaged.
In Udupi city, on the road passing in front of Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Sabhabhavana, about 25 two wheelers got skid and 3 – 4 riders who fell off are injured. The seeds falling from some flower tree on the side of the road melted with the rain water and an oily substance had spread all over the road, this oil caused the bike riders to lose control and they were falling off bike.
The municipal Officers who came to the spot immediately, spread sand over the road and have temporarily solved the problem and they have also said that those trees will be cut off, for which the locals have expressed sever objection. Just for the incident of one day in monsoon season, cutting off the trees which are providing shade for all the 365 days is not fair, they have opinioned.
