Belman, 23 February 2012: In Punaru Kukkimaru of Belman during 1959 with 30 students the Government Lower Primary School was started with Sharadabai as its first teacher and her service was the foundation. The school continued in a hut near the house of Ramaraya of Punaru. Later in that place two rooms with tile roof were constructed with the cooperation of the villagers.
During 1984 – 85 when Kodimaru Gopalakrishna Tantri was the Belman Grama Panchayath President the school continued in a new building built with the cooperation by the villagers in the government land. In the 1.19 acre land the classes from first to fourth standard continued. During 2001 – 02 the Lower Primary School was converted into Higher Primary School.
Time to time with the help of the villagers the basic needs of the school facilities was fulfilled and the population of students gradually increased. Currently there are 110 students are studying and there are five teachers. With contributions such as one room from Karkala Taluk Panchayath, three rooms, toilets, drinking water from Education Board, government allotted well and the contributions such as desk – benches from Rotary Shirva, computer from Rotary Udupi, Stationeries from Lions and JCI and also with the cooperation of the villagers the school is going forward.
On the occasion of the completion of 50 years, the Golden Jubilee will be celebrated on 25th February. Constructed with the grants of Vidhana Parishat Members Capt. Ganesh Karnik and Kota Shrinivasa Poojary and the donors, the “Suvarna Soudha” will be inaugurated. In the function to be conducted in the evening Shree Subrhamanya Mutt Seer Shri Vidyaprasanna Theertha Swameeji will participate. Various cultural programs and Tulu drama ‘Janne Jana Encha’ will be played.
