Udupi/Mangalore, 03 May 2010: In a bid to avoid head-on collision, a bus plunged into Pangala river on Saturday late night.
According to the police, the bus was on its way to Udupi from Suzlon in Padubidri. When it reached Pangala bridge, the bus driver in a bid to avoid head-on collision against a lorry coming from the opposite direction, lost control over the bus and it plunged to the river. However, there were no passengers in the bus.
20 hurt
A Konaje bound city bus turned turtle after the bus driver lost control over the bus at Ujjodi on Sunday night. Though no one has suffered serious injuries, 20 persons suffered minor injuries. A woman’s leg was caught between the seat in the melee. However, the police, with the help of the members of the public rescued her.
GP candidate injured
A gram panchayat candidate suffered injuries when a mini bridge conneting Kote Kandiga-Kote near Mattu in Katpady collapsed on Sunday. The injured is Mattu Ganesh Ganiga, a candidate for Kote-Mattu ward. The incident occurred when he was campaigning. Damodar K, Raghavendra Bhat also suffered minor injuries. The villagers alleged that iron was not used while constructing the bridge. The bridge collapsed due to poor quality of work.

A passenger was killed and three suffered injuries in a head on collision between autorickshaw and goods tempo near Kukkikatte Ayyappa temple in Udupi on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Harish. The injured are Praveen, Anil and Sunil. The autorickshaw was bound to Alevoor from Manipal.
Shop burgled
Some unidentified miscreants gained entry into a mobile shop and decamped with mobile phones, recharge cards and memory cards worth Rs 38,342 at B C Road. The shop belongs to Rukmayya P S (51). The miscreants gained entry by breaking the shutter lock.
A case has been registered.
