Mangalore, 28 September 2011: Seer of Nidumamidi Mutt Veerabhadra Chennamalla Swamy has posed an open challenge to Pejwar Math Seer Vishveshatheertha Swamiji to organise ’Mishra pankthi bhojana’ including the Dalits at Sri Krishna Math in Udupi.
Addressing an interaction programme organised by the Journalists’ Study Centre here on Tuesday, Nidumamidi seer questioned Pejawar seer if he was ready to allow Dalits to perform pooja rituals to the presiding deity inside Sri Krishna Math or organise inter-caste marriages among different castes of Hindu religion.
“I will surrender myself to Pejawar seer if he agrees with me,” Chennamalla Swami said adding: “I appreciate his interest. However, it is a fact that he is an inactive religious leader, who can never solve the problems of Dalits.”
Seeking explanation from Pejawar seer with regard to the programmes he had launched for the welfare of the Dalits, Chennamalla Swamy opined that most of the mutts work only with the objectives of increasing its wealth.
“There is no example of Maths joining hands for a national cause,” he added. He opined that politics itself is a dharma, but at the same time, dharma of religion is related purely to one’s own personal faith.
“We should be Indians once we come out of our house,” he advised.
