Udupi, 19 September 2011: Opposing the price rise on Petrol and LPG gas by the central government, Udupi Nagarika Samiti conducted protest in a distinctive way. The Samiti members tied the Omni car to the hand cart and pulled it and along with tens of bicycle riders they went on a procession through the city to make an attempt to draw the attention of the people against the government.
In a procession they gathered at Gandhi circle near the service bus stand and conducted protest there. Addressing the gathering Chief Secretary of the Samiti Nityananda Volakadu expressed his anger on the central government who is rising the price and though there is provision for the state government to reduce the price they are not reducing it.
Nityananda Volakadu said that, they will not be submitting any petition to the Deputy Commissioner or any other Officers. In the city there are so many protests were conducted and petitions have been submitted, but whether it reaches to the real concerned or not is doubtful, therefore the people have no other option but to come down to the streets and conduct protest, he said.
The Congress Party or BJP are not opening their mouth on the difficulties caused to the people by this rise of the prices on Petrol and LPG, as their governments are in power in the center and state. The non-participation of the general public in this protest makes one to doubt that may be this rise in the prices have caused any problem to the people of Udupi!
