At home
Mangalore, 14 August 2011: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda was received with a great deal of love, affection and reverence by the people of Dakshina Kannada district during his maiden visit to his home turf after taking over as the Chief Minister of the State.
Hundreds of people gathered at the Circuit House in Mangalore on Sunday morning with bouquets and memorandums to welcome their beloved chief minister.
Gowda, in his simple white attire, beamed his signature smile and shook hands with each and every person who had come to meet him and accepted their memorandum. The chief minister made no bones about his love for the district, when he announced that Dakshina Kannada would undoubtedly get ‘privileged status’ and all the applications, complaints and requests from the district will be dealt separately.
Temple tour
On Sunday, Gowda juggled a series of appointments and programmes to visit to six temples. Starting the day with a visit to Kadri Manjunatheshwara temple, he proceeded to Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara temple, Venkatramana temple in Car Street, Kadekar temple at Jeppu, Sri Durgaparameshwari temple at Kateel and Marakada temple, before leaving for Bangalore.
Meet the press
The chief minister has decided that he will meet the press once a week and refrain from the prevailing trend of giving television bites everyday.
Interacting with mediapersons at the Mangalore Press Club, he said the meeting will be an hour long, wherein the past week will be reviewed and the next week will be planned.
He added that his media cell has been instructed to track all reports that appear in print and television, and deputy commissioners in each district will be asked to respond to the reports.
Gowda also informed that he would hold a tea party with the Opposition leaders every week, either on Tuesday or Wednesday, to discuss developmental issues.
