Kolar, 30 March 2010: City police rescued a six-year old girl from her kidnappers early Monday after a dramatic chase at Salem in Tamil Nadu.
Superintendent of Police K Tyagarajan and IGP (South) Kamal Pant told the media that three of her alleged kidnappers, Halasuru M Shekhar, R Ramu and V Krishna were arrested.
The city police launched a massive operation to trace Archana (6), daughter of Muniyappa, a granite trader, after she was kidnapped while playing in front of her house at P C Colony on March 25.
The abductors were in contact with Muniyappa at regular interval and initially demanded a ransom of Rs 70 lakh. Later, they settled for Rs 20 lakh for releasing Archana and specified a location in Tamil Nadu for the exchange. Muniyappa sent Rs 20,000 with his brother Narayanaswamy to the location in Tamil Nadu specified by the kidnappers.
Alerted, a large posse, comprising a large police team in four private vehicles, the girl’s relatives in four vehicles and youths on 10 motorcycles rushed to Tamil Nadu to trace the abductors.
However, kidnappers kept changing their location making it difficult for the police to locate them.
Finally, they instructed Muniyappa on his mobile to place the money in a bus in the bus stand at Salem.
The police swooped down on the bus stand and managed to arrest a man who was making the phone calls from the bus stop. His accomplice was arrested after a chase when tried to escape.
According to the information provided by him, the third of the abductors was arrested.
Tyagarajan led the operation. Additional Superintendent of Police S R Phanindra Singh, DSP Sangappa Chalavadi, Circle Inspector of Police V Dhanajay, D C Nandakumar, SI S Y Mohan and K C Nagaraj were part of the rescue team.
A reward has been announced for the team involved in the operation.
