Manipura, 01 June 2011: A workshop to provide information to the physically challenged persons was held in the premises of the Manipura Grama Panchayat under the joint auspices of the grama panchayat and Department of Welfare of the Physically Challenged on May 31, 2011.
The workshop was inaugurated by Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza, member of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat. In her address, Mrs. Ida said that the physically challenged persons should make it a point to avail all the facilities given to them by the government through the welfare department and try to be self sufficient and live respectable lives and become part of the mainstream of the society.
Kum. Swapna, representative of the civil service centre of the Udupi District Hospital explained the various treatments provided by the hospital to the physically challenged persons. Madhusudhan Bhat, , Convener of the Udupi Taluk Welfare Department of the Physically Challenged said that affected persons should take benefit of the various facilities provided by the department and improve their abilities and live a dignified life in the community.
Medical officer of the Manipura Primary health centre, Dr. Sachidanand Bhat provided health tips to the physically challenged. Devendra Nayk, an official of the Manipura Grama Panchayat explained the method of applying for government facilities through the department and the income limit for availing these facilities.
The workshop was attended by physically challenged persons, their family members and Manipura Grama Panchayat members.
Venkataramana, secretary of the Manipura Grama Panchayat welcomed the gathering and Pravin, panchayat development officer compeered the programme of the workshop.
