Bangalore, 26 May 2011: KG Halli police arrested two women for cheating a family by posing as "saints" who could double their wealth. Shamsheed, 25, and Muskan, 23, cheated the family of gold worth Rs 6 lakh during a fake ritual on May 5 in Muslim Colony in KG Halli police station limits.
Shamsheed, a resident of Kengeri, befriended Ameen Bi’s family and came to know about their financial and other problems. She plotted with her friend Muskan from New Delhi to take advantage of this.
Shamshed went to the victim’s family and told them she knew someone who performed miracles. She convinced them that if this "saint" performed some rituals, the family could not only overcome problems but also double its wealth.
The family fell for this and invited Shamsheed and Muskan, who posed as the saint, on May 5. During the ritual, Muskan asked the family to place all its valuables in a white cloth. She told the family that by performing rituals on the ornaments, the bad aura around the family could be driven away and the family would become prosperous.
She locked up the ornaments in a box and gave the family something to plant outside the house. When they went out, she removed the ornaments from the box and locked it again. She asked the family not to open the box for one week -- if the box was not touched, the gold within would double but if anyone opened it earlier, he would lose his sight.
The family paid her for the rituals. But curiosity got the better of them and three days later, one of them opened the box and found it empty. They filed a police complaint and the culprits were arrested.
Along with this case, Bangalore East division police solved 104 more cases and arrested 47 persons from whom property worth Rs 1.73 crore was recovered.
