Udupi, 14 May 2011: An accident that brought the traffic to a standstill in Santhekatte yet again! On Saturday 14th May 2011 at 12-30 pm a head on collision of Maruti swift vehicle with truck resulted in serious shoulder injury to driver of the car, due to the impact the front wheel dislodged and the car was dragged few feet. People rushed to help the victim and succeeded to evacuate the driver from the shattered windscreen and twisted metal. The injured driver has been taken to hospital in Manipal.
Chinmaya, and Vasantha Udupa from Kemmannu along with Joy, Oliver, and Sheldon social workers now helping road victims took control of the situation with police officers who arrived later to investigate the cause of the accident.
According to an eye witness it is difficult to find out who is at fault because the road has become narrow and lot of recently felled trees have been left abandoned. The NH 66 work is in progress and there is no foot path by the side of the road and pedestrians have no option but use the risky National Highway.
