Mangalore, 11 May 2011: Scoring 92 in English, 99 in Hindi, 100 in Statistics, 99 in Mathematics, 100 in Business Studies and 100 in Accountancy - in all 590 out of 600 - this could be any student’s dream in any examination.
Yes, Mangalore’s own Andrea Preetha Sequeira, student of St Aloysius PU College has done it.
When the results were to be out on Tuesday, May 10, she was frantically hoping for something around 96 or 97 per cent. She has surpassed her own expectation by scoring 98.3%.
Yet, she may have narrowly, but sadly, missed the first place in the entire state. The top-scorer’s tally in the state is 592.
Speaking to Impact Media, Andrea said she has plans to take up CA studies. Perhaps she has a genetic reason. She is the only issue of Alphonse Sequeira of Vijaya Bank and Miriam Sequeira of Syndicate Bank, both Commerce students.
Miriam said her daughter has been sincere in her studies and had a set daily time-table. Every day she would study for about two hours, besides being attentive in the class. Music being in her blood, she has a practice of studying with light music on with earphones plugged in, the mother added.
Miriam also made a valid point. Andrea had scored 97.3% with Science in SSLC. The parents did not want to keep up with the Joneses by getting her to take up Medicine or Engineering.
Neither did they want to foist any career on her, but, instead, left the choice entirely to her. Andrea opted for Commerce. And she proved her proficiency there as well.
Miriam firmly believes that the choice of a career is best left to the student, based on his / her aptitude.
Besides music, dance is another of Andrea’s hobbies.
