Adani Foundation flags-off ‘Swachhagraha’ programme; holds workshop for teachers

Udupi, 29 Dec: Adani Foundation, as a part of its CSR initiative, conducted a training/workshop for the teachers of identified Government Schools to implement the Swacchagraha programme, here, on Friday, December 28.
The workshop was jointly inaugurated by MLA Lalji R Mendon, ZP vice president Sheela K Shetty, ZP members Shashikant Padubidri, Geetanjali Suvarna and Shilpa G Suvarna, deputy director of public instructions Sheshashayana, BEO Uma at the auditorium of Hotel Nayat Residency, Padubidri, here, on Friday morning.
Inaugurating the workshop, Lalalji informed that Adani, under the CSR programmes, is executing various development works in Kaup and Udupi taluks in the field of education, village infrastructure development, health and support to local organizations for sports and cultural activities. He also said, ‘Cleanliness is the vision of Mahatma Gandhiji, it is the responsibility of every citizen for maintaining the cleanliness.’ He lauded the initiative of Adani Foundationn on ‘Swachhagraha’ project to create awareness and imparting knowledge on cleanliness to the students by training the teachers.
Sheela Shetty, in her address, applauded the initiation of Adani Foundation in implementing the project in creating Green Environment in the District. She urged that younger generation should actively participate in the cleanliness drive.
Later, Kishore Alva spoke and informed that Adani Foundation has implemented this SWACHHAGRAHA programme in 18 States, covering 72 cities, 4,340 schools involving 4,532 SwachhagrahaPreraks (Teachers) and 82,172 Swachhagrahis Students. He said that ShilinAdani, wife of Rajesh Adani, managing director of Adani Group, is heading the project across the locations to create a culture on cleanliness. He informed that Adani Foundation has identified 156 Government and Government Aided Schools in Udupi District for implementing the programme and Workshop is being conducted for the Teachers of these identified schools. Learning cleanliness is a part of education and this programme aims at imparting knowledge on cleanliness to the school students. This programme would be like a part of syllabus for the students in the academic, Alva added. He also told that the required study materials and project materials would be supplied to the schools by Adani Foundation.
ZP members Shashikant Padubidri, Geetanjali Suvarna and Reshma Uday Shetty spoke on the occasion and appreciated the cleanliness drive framed by Adani Foundation. They informed that this would be gift to the District from Adani.
Sheshashayana, DDPI – Udupi, addressing the Teachers informed that all students should gain the knowledge of cleanliness. He told that everyone should own the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness in their villages, town, district, state and nation. He informed that everyone should cooperate in the Swachhagraha programme and bring revolution in the District.
Adani UPCL’s AGM Girish Navada and senior manager Ravi R Jere were present on the dais.
Rajendra Kumar Inna compered the programme, Adani Foundation’s project officers Jignesh and Vineet Anchan imparted training to the teachers. Ravi Jere briefed the CSR programmes being undertaken in the District.
Teachers from 52 schools got trained in today’s workshop which got concluded in the evening.
