State apathy on Kannada schools threatens

Udupi, 26 Dec 2017: Indian culture and life values that was integral of Gurukul system of education was world renowned. Meanwhile, Indian culture faced the onslaught because of British rulers and continuation of Macaulay curriculum even after post Independence. Its due to the apathy of state government, Kannada medium schools are shutting their doors one after the other, thereby threatening the native culture and contemporary Indian culture, said Swami Esha Vittaladas of Sandipani Sadana Ashram, Kemar, in Paladka, Moodbidri taluk.

 

Swami Esha Vittaladas was speaking during post centenary silver jubilee celebration of UBMC at Mattar, near Shirva, here, on Saturday, December 23.

 

 

The curriculum based on mother-tongue in early schooling lays strong foundation for future. It nurtures moral values and bonds the child.  Meanwhile, the extremes of mobile and Whatsapp by the children drives them on the crossroads with increased suicidal tendencies. The farming is an enriching profession, said Swami Esha Vittaldas.

 

The alumni Association and school betterment Committee president advocate Mattar Ratnakar Hegde in his presidential address said, ‘The Christian missionaries created literacy revolution by opening schools in the remote villages 150 years ago. The world renowned artist K K Hebbar, fighter Shetty famed bollywood actor Muddu Shetty and thousands of students who had studied at this chool excelled in their careers. The school once had students strength of 350, now has just 34 students despite all basic amenities but lack of teaching staff.’

 

The retired teachers and donors were felicitated on the same occasion.

 

Kaup MLA Vinayakumar Sorake, former MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Shirva gram panchayat president Varija Poojary, vice president Devdas Nayak, ZP member Wilson Rodrigues, TP member Geetha Wagle, social activist and entrepreneur Suresh Shetty Gurme, DK and Udupi district fisheries marketing Federation president Yashpal Suvarna, retired teacher B Pundalika Marate, alumnus and movie actor Sandeep Shetty Manibettu, alumnus Ajit Aranha, entrepreneur Prakash Hegde Pune, TP member Rita Mathias, Ranjit Prabhu were present at the dais.  

 

The Committee president Ramesh Prabhu Belanjale, secretary Suresh Nayak Nekkarekambla, head teacher Sharat Kumari, school pupil leader Prajna, treasurer Santosh Acharya Manibettu were also present.

 

Santosh Moodubelle welcomed the gathering. Prashanti Acharya read the list of prize winners. Damodar Sharma compered the programme.  Ranjit Prabhu proposed vote of thanks.

 

The students presented variety cultural shows as part of entertainment programme. The artistes of Chaitanya Kalavidaru – Bailoor presented Tulu comedy play, Toopinaye Poye.
