Udupi: Public celebration of Ganeshotsav fosters communal harmony - Pundalika

Udupi, 28 Aug 2017: The public celebrations of Ganeshotsav that was launched by freedom fighter Balagangadar Tilak during pre-Independence era, to ignite patriotism, foster unity to get freedom from imperial rulers continues to promote secularism in post-Independence era, said Pundalika Marate, member of chair in Christianity, Mangalore University. He was speaking during 10th annual public celebration of Ganeshotsav at Dendoor – Kalmanje, here, on Saturday, August 26.
We become truly humane when we understand fellowmen’s difficulties, said Pundalika.
The public celebration of Ganeshotsav Committee president Sakaram Shetty felicitated Dr Leena Sequeira, Kuntalnagar parish priest Fr Denis D’Sa, Vedamurti Vedavyasa Upadhyaya and Billava community leader Gopu Poojary during the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr D’Sa said the public celebration of Ganeshotsav indeed promotes secularism among the people of different communities in society.
Rotary Club – Manipura founder president Joseph Kunder, vice president Bhuvaraha Acharya Kalmanje, joint secretary Annappa Poojary, Nagesh Shetty, treasurer Y Jayaram Shetty Dendoor, advocate Krishnaraj Acharya, Dendoor Milk Producers Co-operative Society president Raju Shetty, Sudhakar Shetty, Dayanand Shetty Kalmanje were present.
The teacher Herald D’Silva compered the programme. The honorary president Gururaj Bhat Dendoor welcomed the gathering. The vice president Ramesh Shetty Dendoor proposed vote of thanks.
Tulu devotional singing programme was staged by the members of Tulukoota®, Udupi, movie director Prakash Suvarna Katpady and Bhagyalaxmi Uppoor.
