Udupi: B A students of Milagres College, visit Haji Abdulla Numismatic Museum

Udupi, 07 Jul 2017: The Humanities Association of Milagres College organized field visit for the students of I B A to Haji Abdullah Numismatic Museum, Corporation Bank Divisional Office premises, here on Thursday, July 5. Professor Melvyn Rego, Dean, Humanities Faculty accompanied 33 students to the museum.
M K Krishnayya, retired Corporation Bank official and a renowned philatelist, numismatist, curator and the guide of the museum and the recipient of many awards to his credit welcomed the students and addressed them on the beginning of the museum in Udupi by Corporation Bank. He informed that the museum building was the residence of Haji Abdullah Khan who owned nearly 60% of land in Udupi and who is the founder of Corporation Bank. His residence, now the museum, is the birthplace of Corporation Bank. Krishnayya gave long history of coinage and currency notes right from barter system to the present times. He introduced students on the national coin mints, classification of coins, early form of coins in the shape of stones, beads, seeds, metal plates and gold coins with samples exhibited in the museum.
Later, an interactive session was held in the conference hall of the museum with Dr Rajendra Prasad, divisional general manager, Corporation Bank, Udupi division. He addressed the students on the banking system and its benefits to the common man. Laxman Shenoy Kallya, financial literacy officer, Gramina Abhyudaya Financial Literacy Centre, Corporation Bank, here, addressed the students on the digital banking system and opportunities for digital banking. He informed about the use of digital banking, SBI Buddy, UPI, Corpbanking, Debit cards, net banking etc.
The students actively participated in the interactive sessions. Sahana, Mahima and Akhilesh raised some queries on the digital baking and other related issues.
Professor Melvyn C Rego thanked M K Krishnayya for making the arrangements for visiting the museum and onsite guest lectures from the Bank Officials. The programme was well attended and appreciated by the students.
