Precautionary measures assure steady water supply to Mangaluru town – MLA Ivan

Bantwal, 28 Apr 2017: The Mangaluru town faced the acute shortage of drinking water during 2016, while its owing to precautionary measures, the situation is not so worse as that of last year. Despite this, the city-folks should use the water judicially without wasting, cautioned Karnataka legislative council chief whip Ivan D’Souza.
Addressing the media persons after visiting Thumbay vented-dam on Thursday, April 27; Ivan said, ‘AMR dam had ‘0’ meter water during this time in 2016 that stands at 3.99 meters this year. Thumbay vented-dam had 1.9 meters water during this time in 2016 that stands at 5 meter this year. The stored water is sufficient for Mangaluru to supply for 1 full month,’ said Ivan.
The state administration has earmarked Rs 8.71 crore for setting up desalination plant to ease drinking water woes that would cost around Rs 4 per litre. Meanwhile, the entire Dakshina Kannada district will be self sufficient in water supply, provided the water level maintained at 6 feet that needs state funds of Rs 25 crore to execute the works. It would be brought to the notice of CM Siddaramaiah and concerned department officers, said Ivan.
The deputy mayor, municipal engineers, assistant executive engineers and civic officials were present.
