Mangaluru: Dist Admin releases Rs 17 crore for ensuring water supply

Mangaluru, 07 Apr 2017: The Dakshina Kannada District Administration has released Rs 17 crore for various development works with regard to ensuring water supply in the district, said Deputy Commissioner Dr K G Jagadeesha on Thursday.
Addressing the Karnataka Development Programmes (KDP) progress review meeting held at Zilla Panchayat, he informed, “Of the Rs 17 crore released, Rs 9.7 crore will be spent for rural areas while Rs 7 crore will be spent on urban areas of the district. The funds will be used for rejuvenating the borewells, deepening existing borewells and other projects.”
The Deputy Commissioner has directed officials to ensure water supply through tankers and other means and also by renting private borewells by utilizing available funds.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner has set June 15 as the deadline for the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to complete the work being carried out on National Highway 66. He added that he had told the NHAI site Engineer that the Pumpwell Circle flyover and other work had to be completed on time as the Pumpwell stretch was likely to turn into a water reservoir during the rainy season.
