Mangaluru: District Literacy Mission ambitious to literate 11% illiterates in DK

Mangaluru, 29 Jan 2017: At the joint aegis of DK district Literacy Committee and Jana Shikshana Trust® Kankanady, here, skill development training camp for neo-literates of district was held at zilla panchayat Netravati auditorium, here on Friday, January 27.
The district elderly education officer K Sudhakar welcomed the gathering. ZP chief executive officer Dr M R Ravi inaugurated the programme by lighting the solar lamp.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ravi said, ‘The societal issues are deep routed and remedial measures should take effect from its lowest level. The change should begin from us to bring happiness on the least of person in the society. We can find happiness in our profession by bringing hope among the least in the society. The panchayat development officers (PDOs) in all gram panchayat across DK district has to appoint one animator for literacy mission. The zilla panchayat extends wholehearted support to skill development training of neo-literates,’ said Dr Ravi.
ZP deputy secretary N R Umesh appealed all those including NGOs who are involved in literacy mission to literate 11 percent of illiterates in DK district.
The district former Ombudsman Sheena Shetty continued the literacy workshop with discussion on plastic free villages and administered oath on cleanliness. He also laid emphasis on water conservation, electrified homes and NAREGA programme.
Jana Shikshana Trust director Krishna Moolya and education officer Sudhakar K offered info about skill development of neo-literates.
PDOs from various gram panchayats across district and animators of Grama Vikasa Kendra were present.
