MLA Lobo convinces fisheries leaders to dredge shipping channels at Old Port

Mangaluru, 14 Dec 2016: MLA J R Lobo here on Tuesday, December 13, held talks with fisheries leaders and sailors who were opposing to dredge the channels at Old Port.

 

 

The hi-tech dredger was brought from Mumbai to dredge the shipping channels at the bay of Old Port, in order to facilitate easier movement of fisheries vessels and cargo/passenger vessels. As the channels are heap of sand, many trawlers and boats have capsized, causing huge losses. The dredger will clear the sand up to 4 meters that will enable smooth navigation of vessels.

 

MLA Lobo convinced the fisheries leaders and sailors that the money will be worth spent on the task for greater benefits as the existing 2.5 meters of depth of water level will be dangerous for navigational traffic.

 

MUDA chairman K Suresh Ballal, fisheries leaders, port and fisheries department officials were present.
