Karkala, 11 Nov 2016: The rural people in a large numbers queued up since early morning in front of the branches of PSU bank at Belman, near here on Wednesday, November 10, to exchange their currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations.

The bank customers holding Aadhar cards waited to exchange their defunct currency notes, while the bank staff disposed off their stocks of Rs 10 coins in lieu of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes as they have exhausted the stocks of Rs 100 notes.

The lack of information on the part of the customers led to this pathetic situation. An elderly woman who waited in queue was happy to know that her defunct currency notes are secured and left the premises to come back in 2 weeks for exchange of her notes.
