Udupi: Sakshama Sangatane campaigns to make India cornea-blindness free

Udupi, 10 Nov 2016: Sakshama Sangatane organized sensitization programme as part of Cornea blindness free India campaign at Government Girls PU College, here on Tuesday, November 8.
Addressing the students, Sakshama Sangatane district president Pangala Panduranga Shanbagh, ‘I have proved to the world that despite blindness I can lead normal life,’ said Panduranga. He appealed to the students to be alert in life, achieve something worthwhile in life and also respond to the needs of society.
Sakshama Sangatane Karnataka organizing secretary Jayaram Bollage was the chief guest said that 20 lac cornea-affected people in India are in need of donors. The sensitization programme across the nation is being held in order to increase the number of donors with a view to make India cornea-free nation in 4 years. He called upon the students to be committed to voluntarily donate blood in lifetime and donate eyes after the demise.
The students experienced blindness by walking in college compound with their eyes covered with handkerchieves.
The College principal Jagadeesh in presidential address announced of donating his eyes and urged the students to do so.
Sakshama Sangatane secretary Nitesh Malpe, district treasurer Arvind Holla were present.
The lecturer Dayanand welcomed the gathering. Gangadhar proposed vote of thanks.
