Mangaluru might get water on alternate days from Jan: DC

Mangaluru, 07 Nov 2016: The Mangaluru City Corporation will supply water on alternate days from January 1 if the inflow of water to the Thumbe vented dam reduced.

 

Addressing a press meet, Deputy Commissioner Dr KG Jagadeesha said that since the city faced acute shortage of water during the last April-May, the District Administration had taken the decision; however, if there was good inflow, water would be supplied daily.

 

Meanwhile, he said that work on the new vented dam built across River Netravathi was likely to be completed by month end and water up to five meters should be stored by December 10. He added that the silt near the new Thumbe vented dam would also be cleaned.

 

The Deputy Commissioner stated that the process of closing the gates of old Thumbe vented dam had already been initiated and would be completed by November 15 to ensure full storage that would be supplied to the city during the summer.

 

He further said that five meters water would be enough to cater to the needs of the city for 45 days and water in AMR Dam would be enough for three months.
