Businessman loses several lakhs after E-mail, account is hacked

Mangaluru, 04 Nov 2016: Several lakhs that were supposed to be remitted to an American Company failed to reach the required account as the depositor’s E-mail ID and account were hacked.

 

Richard Monteiro, owner of Plantech Power Technical Services Pvt. Ltd located at Baikampady Industrial Area, had transferred money via E-mail to ENR Company, USA for procuring materials for a project. After placing orders on October 7 and 20, he transferred Rs 8,05,920 and Rs 3,89,296 on October 17 and 20 respectively to the company’s account at Barclays Bank.

 

However, the US Company sent a report saying that the amount was not credited to their account. On verification, it came to light that the E-mail and the account were hacked.

 

The Panambur police registered a case under Cyber Crime Act and investigations are on.
