Cracker eye injury cases cross 120

Bengaluru, 02 Nov 2016: The number of people injured in the city while bursting crackers crossed 120 on Tuesday. However, apart from a 11-year-old being treated at Narayana Nethralaya, none are at risk of losing sight. 

 

At Minto Ophthalmic Hospital, the number went up to 23. Out of this, nine people, mostly children, have sustained severe injuries in the eye. 

 

Narayana Nethralaya reported 61 injury cases, of which 39 were aged below 16 years.

 

At Shankara Eye Hospital, 24 cases were attended to by the doctors. At Samprathi Eye Hospital, three eye injury cases were reported. 

 

A 72-year-old man from RT Nagar had his left eye damaged, while watching his granddaughter burst a cracker. He sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment. Elumalai, 50, from Pipeline Road, who was telling children not to light rockets suffered damage to the cornea after the cracker hit his right eye. Dr Arun Samprathi is treating Elumalai.
