Bantwal: Paddy revolution underway nearby new vented dam at Thumbe

Bantwal, 14 Sep 2016: The motion was set for paddy revolution here on Tuesday September 13, by the victims of new vented dam at Thumbe that threatens the flooding of farmlands in Koppala that comes under the limits of Sajipamunnoor, here.
The farmers began planting the saplings of paddy in a disused farmland owned by former MLA N Shivaraya here on Tuesday morning.
The farmers left their farmlands disused since 12 years fearing the flooding by the newly-built vented dam at Thumbe, near here. The Mangaluru municipal corporation that is building the dam to supply drinking water to city did not clarify the areas likely to be inundated by building the new dam. Meanwhile, the farmers began the farming after the assurances of peoples representatives that water will not be stored in the dam over 5 meter that will minimise the scope for flooding.
Raita Sangha green brigade Karnataka general secretary Kumar Subramanya Shastry, district president Sridar Shetty Bailuguttu, secretary Manohar Shetty N, vice president N K Iddinabba, treasurer Sudheesh Mayya, convener Shaikh Abdulla, Satish Gowda, farmland owner Mahalaxmi were present.
