Bantwal, 21 Jun 2016: The state forests and Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai flagged-off taluk-wide mobile campaign, with the slogan towards farmers’ doorstep, by the farming department, here on Monday June 20. The campaign will conclude on Monday June 27.
The taluk panchayat president Chandrahas Karkera presided the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Karkera expressed deep concern over the dwindling of farm produce as more rural youth are shunning farming by migrating to cities and towns to find jobs in information technology and biotechnology. He urged the farmers to use modern machinery to make farming sustainable. ‘The mobile campaign embarked on by farming department will be helpful in this regard,’ added Karkera.
Mangaluru sub division deputy farming director R Mune Gowda offered info about the campaign and soil testing for getting higher yield.
The taluk panchayat steering Committee chairperson Dhanalaxmi C Bangera, BUDA chairman Pius L Rodrigues, taluk panchayat members Yashwant Polali, Ganesh Suvarna Thumbe, Ratnavati Shetty Ganterabettu, Mallika V Shetty, state Krushika Samaja Dakshina Kannada district representative Padmanabha Rai, and taluk level different department officers were present.
Bantwal assistant farming director P F Miranda delivered the preliminary address. The farming officer K Narayan Shetty welcomed the gathering and proposed vote of thanks.
