Konkani Shikshana Abhiyana - 2016 begins in Udupi district

Karkala, 15 Jun 2016: Konkani Shikshana Abhiyana – 2016, that was embarked on by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, in collaboration with Konkani Prachar Sanchalan® to motivate students to opt for Konkani as option subject arrived at St Joseph’s Schools, Belman, near here on Tuesday June 14. The mobile campaign arrived in Udupi district, after visiting 112 schools in Uttar Kannada.
Addressing the gathering, Konkani Prachar Sanchalan® general secretary Vitori Karkal said that Konkani is the rich language spoken by 42 communities in the coastal district. Karnataka government has granted permission to teach Konkani as optional subject in schools since 2007. Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy introduced several programmes to inspire the students in this regard. He urged the school authorities to allow Konkani studies in order to sustain mother tongue.
The Academy donated Konkani books worth Rs 5,000 that was handed over along with Konkani flag to the library of St Joseph’s School, Belman, near here by the school head teacher Sr Lucy Pereira.
Konkani Prachar Sanchalan® secretary James D’Souza, Konkani litterateur J F D’Souza Attavar, Ron Roche Cascia, Manu Bajal, Sandeep Monteiro, Denis, Stanley, Suraj, Sunilm Mother Theresa Brass Band, students and teachers were present.
The Academy former member and Mangalore University Konkani Studies Centre member B Pundalika Marate Shirva proposed vote of thanks.
