IRCS to launch helpline giving details on availability at blood banks in DK
Mangaluru, 11 Jun 2016: The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Dakshina Kannada unit’s blood bank at Lady Goschen Hospital will launch a helpline on the occasion of World Blood Donors’ Day on June 14.
Accordingly, those in need of blood can contact the helpline and will be provided details on the blood availability at the nearest blood bank across Dakshina Kannada.
The helpline -0824-2424788, will begin operating from June 14 and help would be provided 24/7.
Sushil Jathanna, Chairman, IRCS’ Blood Bank Committee said that information would be provided about availability of blood. However, in case, the particular requirement was not available, Red Cross staff will try contacting voluntary donors, but no guarantee that the requirement would be fulfilled, he said. He added that the staff would also provide information on the benefits of donating blood.
The helpline will be launched at a programme held on June 14 at the Conference Hall of Regional Advanced Pediatric Care Centre, Wenlock Hospital at 4 pm for which PI Sreevidya, CEO, Dakshina Kannada Zilia Panchayat will be the guest.
Five people who have donated the highest units of blood will be honoured on the occasion; also, those who have helped in organizing blood camps will be felicitated.
The Red Cross Blood Bank will organize a blood donation camp on June 14 between 9 am and 12.30 pm at its premises.
