Karkala: Indira Poojarti seeks support to rebuild her dwelling at Inna village

Karkala, 05 May 2016: Its miserable existence for fifty-three-year-old Indira Poojarti, who is living at Dasabailu, Madman, in the limits of Inna gram panchayat, near here who lives in a dwelling of thatch roof, door made out of aluminum in her 8 cents plot.
Indira was living with her husband Krishna in her modest tile house 25 years ago. Krishna deserted Indira when they had second daughter because he never water girl child in a row. Meanwhile, she continued to care for 2 daughters by rolling bidi. Both girls studied up to Class V and as they reached adolescence, she married them off to grooms who are also poor restaurant workers. Despite this, her economic situation has not improved.
Tile house collapsed
Indira who was struggling with difficulties one after the others could not repair her tile house owing to financial constraint. The house collapsed one day and she became homeless overnight. In order to tide over the situation, she covered the same roof with thatch and continued to live alone. Although her daughters ask her to live with them, Indira does not want to go because she is a self respecting woman and not willing to let go off her own plot, besides she does not want to be burden to her daughters.
Indira is distressed because despite owning a plot, she is not able to build her house. Inna gram panchayat vice president Kusha Moolya offered assurances of providing state facilities that the village council is authorized to approve. She knew that the financial assistance that the village council provides will not be sufficient to build the house; she continues to live in makeshift house. Meanwhile, she hopes to secure her dwelling ahead of monsoon.
