Town police register case against MP Anant Kumar Hegde for derogatory statement on Islam

Bantwal, 01 March 2016: Bantwal town police registered a case against Uttar Kannada district MP Anant Kumar Hegde, for his derogatory statement on Islam and Muslims, on the basis of complaint lodged by Dakshina Kannada district youth Congress vice president Lukman.
Addressing the media persons during a press meet held in Sirsi, Uttar Kannada on Sunday February 28, MP Anant said, ‘As long Islam exists in the world, there will be terrorism. As long as, we are not able to cleanse the world of Islam, its impossible to eliminate terrorism.’ This derogatory statement has indeed hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims as stated in the complaint lodged by Lukman with the police.
Lukman alleged that MP Anant held the media conference with the intention of creating communal disharmony by hurting the religious sentiments. It has prompted the other communities to view Muslims in suspicion. He urged the police to register case against MP Anant under IPC section 153(A), 295(A) and 502(2).
Panemangaluru block Congress president Abbas Ali, Sadashiv Bangera, Ramakrishna Alva, Mohammed Sharif, Siddiq Guddeyangady, district SC/ST unit president Padmanabha Naringana, Yusuf Karandady, Mohammed Nandavar, A B Abdulla, Shafi Kalladka, Sharif Alady, Kallige gram panchayat member Madhusudan Shenoy and others were present.
