Wildfire breaks out at Kalanjimale Reserve Forest, Locals avert major calamity

Bantwal, 19 Jan 2016: The wildfire has raged several acres of forest in National Reserve Forest at Kalanjimale that lies besides Ukkuda – Kanyana Road, Anepadav, near here owing to accidental fire, on Sunday January 18 late night.
Its owing to the wildfire about 8.7 acres of forest was gutted in the 35 hectare Reserve Forest at Kalanjimale, near here.
A motorcyclist whilst passing through Kanyana to Vittal Road, near Anepadav, alerted the forest personnel posted at their check post at Ukkuda, about the wildfire.
Vittal sub-range forest officer S N Lokesh, forest guards Padmanabha and Ravi, with the help of locals managed to contain the wild fire despite raging winds.
The forest personnel, fire fighters and over 500 local residents struggled for about 5 hours in containing the wildfire that was threatened to spread the entire Reserve Forest.
