Udupi: Renowned Dr K R Venkatakrishna (85) of Shirva passes away

Udupi, 23 Nov 2015: Eighty-five-year-old Dr K R Venkatakrishna, renowned medical practitioner of Shirva, near here passed away in KMC Hospital, Manipal, here on Sunday November 22 afternoon.
He hailed from Kudi village, near here who was born to Rama and Vanajakshi Acharya couple, Kudi village, near Hiriyadka, here on September 5 1930. He had done MBBS from Madras Medical College and began working as medical practitioner in Shirva with Local Fund Hospital (Government). He founded Medical Relief Association in 1963 in Shirva, near here and strived in upgrading the hospital with the contributions of health conscious individuals.
He founded Recreation Club, Young men’s Cultural Association, and motivated the key individuals to begin Rotary Club, Rotaract Club, Jaycees International, etc. He also served as honorary advisor at KMC Hospital, Manipal for many years. He donated his land to establish Rotary Auditorium and also instrumental in opening new high school in his native Kudi village.
He has been awarded district Rajyotsav Award by Udupi district administration in 2012.
He is survived by four sons and two daughters.
