- Media Release
Puttur, 15 Oct 2015: The post graduate department of physics, St Philomena College, here will be organizing UGC sponsored two-day workshop on Quantum Mechanics and Applications from Tuesday October 20 to Wednesday October 21. This workshop is partially funded by Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA), Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST). Many scientists from various parts of the country will participate and deliver expert lectures in the workshop.
Quantum Mechanics deals with the understanding of how atoms behave, how they interact with each other, and how they interact with light. Without this knowledge the world we live in would be profoundly different. It is also responsible for the technological advances that make modern life possible. Without quantum mechanics there would be no transistor, and hence no personal computer; no laser, and hence no Blu-ray players, no modern electronic gadgets.
In-order to discuss and ponder these very interesting, exhaustive and important topics of science the two-day workshop has been organized.
Dr M V Satyanarayana from IIT Madras will inaugurate the workshop and deliver keynote address.
Dr K B Vijayakumar will be the chief guest.
Dr H S Mani from Chennai Mathematical Institute; Dr Arvind from IISER, Mohali; Dr Vincent Mathew from Central University Kerala, Dr Vishnumayya Bannur from Calicut University, Kerala; will give talk and discuss on different topics of quantum physics.
The delegates from different parts of the country will participate in the workshop.
The chairperson of PG Studies Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the co-ordinator of PG Physics Dr E Deepak D’Silva and the head of department of Physics Dr A P Radhakrishna, St Philomena College have informed the press that the interested can take active part in these enlightening deliberations of modern Physics.
