Bantwal: 2 youngsters drown in quarry located in KIADB

Bantwal, 10 Aug 2015: Two youngsters were drowned in a quarry being reported from Cheloor village, near here on Sunday August 9. It has occurred in a quarry located in a deserted area owned by KIADB at Muloorpadav, near here.
The deceased has been identified as eighteen-year-old Deekshith Raj, son of Janardhan, residing at Maji in Boliyar village and twenty-one-year-old Jayaprakash, son of Umesh.
The youngsters arrived at the quarry in 3 motorcycles after outdoor activities on the field. Deekshith Raj who did not know swimming found himself trapped in the silt and could not move, while his friend Jayaprakash reached him and in the process both were trapped and drowned.
Other youth were helpless tried to call their parents over the mobile and raised an alarm. The locals arrived at the spot and managed to take the victims in an ambulance to the hospital.
Bantwal Circle Inspector Belliappa, Bantwal rural sub-inspector Rakshit Gowda, revenue inspector Narayan Poojary, village accountant Basavaraj, Jyotibai, Raju and Toufiq arrived at the spot.
Bantwal rural police registered a case in this regard.
Although the district administration issued orders 1 year ago, to lay fencing around open quarries in the district, it was not followed which has taken 2 precious lives.
The victims come from poor families. Deekshith was II year student of St Xavier’s ITI, Asaigoli, near here and Jayaprakash was a construction worker. Their families live on menual jobs and by bidi rolling.
