Udupi: SMVITM, Bantakal observes World Water Day

Udupi, 27 Mar 2015: The ISTE faculty and student chapters of Sri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, near here in association with Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), as part of World Water Day observance, organized a guest talk on Monday March 23.
The guest speaker, Dr Laxmikant, assistant environmental officer, KSPCB, Mangaluru made a presentation on importance of water preservation and the role of soil and how it had affected the productivity of agriculture due to human activities. He also elucidated the precautions that could be taken to protect the soil and thereby enhance the fresh water availability for the future.
Rajshekar Puranik, environmental officer, KSPCB regional office, Udupi gave an overview of World Water Day.
The guest talk was followed by an interactive quiz session on water, conducted by students of ISTE student chapter under the guidance of Professor Dr A Ganesh, dean (academics) of SMVITM for the students of SMVITM.
Rathnakumar, secretary of SSVMET, Udupi; Professor Dr Radhakrishna S Aithal, principal of SMVITM; Vivek and Prameela, assistant environmental officer of KSPCB regional office, Udupi; heads of departments, Siju V Soman, ISTE co-ordinator; faculty members and students were present.
Ashwini Rao introduced the guest speaker. Devika proposed vote of thanks. Amrusha compered the programme.
